B-Robinson.jpgBrian Robinson is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow on the Toolbox Project. He completed his Ph.D. at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in 2011.

Prior to coming to MSU, Dr. Robinson taught for three years as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Grand Valley State University.

Dr. Robinson's research stands at the confluence of ethics, philosophy of language, and philosophy of science, which is exemplified by his current work on the Toolbox Project. Some of his primary endeavors are to assess the epistemic effect of the Toolbox workshops; produce a taxonomy of academic disciplines (especially scientific disciplines) based on their divergent philosophical commitments; articulate the Toolbox's efficacious use of intentional ambiguity; and develop an account of value integration in the scientific community, focusing on the virtue of humility. He also assists with conducting Toolbox workshops and the ongoing application of the Toolbox to climate resiliency.

He has two other independent research projects. The first connects an empirically plausible theory of moral psychology and virtue ethics, in order to reinterpret an intention-based theory of pragmatics in philosophy of language. Second, Dr. Robinson also part of an interdisciplinary research team that received a two-year grant to study intellectual humility.

Dr. Robinson has publications out or forthcoming in Philosophical Studies, Thought: A Journal of Philosophy, The Monist, The Journal of Positive Psychology, the Proceedings of the European Conference on Social Intelligence, and the Handbook on Virtue Ethics in Business and Management
