PhD students interested in earning a Master's degree

Students who are currently enrolled in the doctoral program can earn a Master's degree by fulfilling the M.A. requirements.  See this document for details and consult the Graduate Handbook.

CIC Traveling Scholars Program

2013 Hall-Hanna Graduate Travel Award

Graduate students are invited to apply for the 2013 Hall-Hanna Graduate Travel Award.  We expect to offer three awards per year to support graduate travel to a conference (each award is approximately $300). 

Application for Hall-Hanna Graduate Travel Award (due Weds. May 15, 2013 by 5 p.m.)


Eligibility: If you will be traveling to a conference to present a paper between now and July 1, 2013, or  if you have already traveled to a conference for which you have additional expenses (not already covered by travel funding), you are eligible to apply for this award.  The dates of the travel should be within the following time frame:  July 1, 2012 - July 1, 2013.  Preference will be given to students who have not already received a Hall-Hanna award in the past.

The Hall-Hanna Endowed Fund was established by Richard Hall and Joseph Hanna, emeritus professors of philosophy, to provide opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students at Michigan State University.  Further support has been provided by MSU alumni and faculty who contributed to the fund.

Spring 2013 - Slaughter Research Fellowships

Two graduate students will be selected to receive Slaughter Research Fellowships in the summer 2013.  Details about the award and how to apply are included in the application, which is due by 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2012.

Spring 2012 C.V. Workshop

This workshop will be held on Friday, April 13, 2012 (3:30-5:00 p.m.) in 530 S. Kedzie Hall.  It is open to all graduate students students in philosophy.  More information is available here.
